Why does my dog shake her head when she has a toy in her mouth?

My dog has a kong for a toy and sometimes she shakes her head while holding the kong in her mouth. Why does she do that. My boyfriend thinks it's a form of a wild dog like a wolf killing an animal.|||This video explains it best:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT5D94Ptj鈥?/a>|||Dogs do shake their toys. It's a throwback from when they were wild dogs and had to shake their prey to kill it.

Much like how dog toy manufacturers include a squeaker because it recreates the sound of the dying animal.

Nice eh?|||Well...gosh darn...the BF is RIGHT!!

That's a shock,eh?

That's how dogs kill small quarry.|||She/he probably wants you to play or take the toy from he/her.|||I think your boyfriend is right. He's trying to kill the toy. What dogs did when they wild and untrained, there natural instincts. Hey it's just having fun.|||If she's some sort of terrier they do that a lot because they were bred for bringing down animals so shake them to kill them.

It's nothing to worry about though, it is perfectly normal :)
