Sure, you can go for an academic learning toy, but I would think music, art, nature - well - these are the areas that need to be honed more in our chidren, in my estimation.
The academics, will always be there, in fact, many enjoy cramming them down a child's throat at a very early age in place of having their interpersonal and communication skills developed. Such a disservice...kids learn at their own intellectual pace - and that pace is somewhat different for each. -But parents often feel it is a true race, succumbing to public educators in all respects. Pathetic.
So hey, have a lovely holidays...a little xylophone (sp) is a cute idea - anything that makes music or noise if you will, is stimulating for young children.
Sincerely,
Grace|||Go online to a toy store...Toys R Us, etc, and look at the age and suggestions..|||13month one you can get a musical matt|||u can go to toys r u and find lots of toys for him/her.|||a musical bouncy ball would be best or a cd player and soft music|||Check out LEAPFROG.com. My daughter is 14 months and some of the toys say "2+ or 3+" of course I wouldn't give her any small parts. How about a water baby? They make really small ones dressed like minnie mouse or elmo.
