How can I help my dog (toy fox terrier, 6 yrs old) adjust to a second dog (pomeranian, 6 months old)?

Our toy fox terrier (6 yrs old) is a little spoiled being the only dog, but we are going to add a new dog - Pomeranian (6 months old) to the family. I'm a little bit concerned about our fox terrier not adjusting well. What can I do to introduce them? Will fox terrier adjust with time or will she continue to exhibit her authority? Your suggestions/recommendations/advice are appreciated.|||If you have allowed your dog to rule the household up to this point then she will likely try to dominate the new dog as well which is fine if the new dog is submissive by nature. If the new dog is dominant by nature then you will have fights and problems on your hands. My suggestion is for you to learn to be an effective pack leader so that you control the actions and reactions of both dogs. Any dog can join a pack if the leader shows the others how they are suppose to behave. There are classes, books %26amp; dvds to learn from.|||well before you get the other dog you should see how your terrier will react. get a small dog stuffed animal, one that is pretty realistic, walk in holding the "new dog" (it should be faced towards you so your dog thinks its real) and then see how your dog reacts to the stuffed animal.|||You need to wait to see what happens when you bring home a new dog.|||i don't know the best adivce for this, other's will probaley be better than me but i have 2 puppie minture schnauzer and of course you have the more dominant one. As long as you introduce them and watch them. Don't let your older dog become aggressive to your puppy. Allow you older dog to have his/her own space and encourage your puppy to have their own space aswell. Therefore if any thing bad happened or they simply wanted me time then they can go to there own area and know that the other dog can't bother them there. Even encourage a seperate toy, one for your older dog and one for your younger dog as they'll feel more confident with each other. Just watch their behaviour and don't let your older dog bully the youg one otherwise it's sleepless nights .

Hope that sorta helped
