Why does my 2 year old cat meow at night while carrying her toy (her baby) in her mouth?

My cat has been doing this just about every night. As soon as we all go to bed, she grabs her toy (which is a small stuffed animal kitten) and she walks up and down the halls meowing. We play with her everyday and we know it's her favourite toy, but why does she do this during the night? Does anyone else have cats who do this as well?

Thanks!|||My cat does this as well! It's cute, but can also be pretty loud. (It's a very distinctive -- and loud -- meow they have when their mouths are half-open, isn't it?)

Cats are naturally more active at night than during the day, so they can get bored when all of their people go to sleep. I've always assumed that mine does this because she's feeling active and lonely, and wants someone to get up and play with her *right now.* She's outta luck.

They say that if you play with your cats a lot during the day, they'll be tired at night and shift to a more human sleep schedule, but that's never worked at all with mine. She's 13 now, and she's been doing it since she was a kitten. I've just learned to sleep through it.

ETA: My cat does have a "buddy" cat she pals around with, and after a time of failing to get human attention with the toy, she will give up and play with them instead, and she doesn't seem terribly neurotic on the whole, so unless your kitty shows other signs of lonliness or weirdness, I really wouldn't worry too much about it.|||this is odd - you'd have to be patient with this to fnid out he foot cause, has she had kittens and misses them - is she afraid of being alone? Does she miss you while you sleep and cry for you?? Do you have a placein your bedroom for her to sleep so she doesnt suffer anxiety? My cat will pull up the carpet to get into my bedroom and sleeps either on my bed or anyplace comfortable in my room.

- please dont be mean - let her in your room- she's lonely|||Yes...just cuz your ready for bed doesn't mean she is. She's lonely when everybody goes to bed and she's just trying to get some attention. Try hiding her toy at night and bringing her to bed with you.|||Aww poor cat. She's most likely lonely. Has she had a litter? If so, she might miss her kittens terribley. You might wanna get a vets opinion, to see if she's suffering anxiety.|||My cat Freida (who sadly was diagnosed with intestinal cancer a month ago- she's on medication that is buying her quality time) has done this with her "weasel" for 10 years! I bought a fluffy toy that looks like a weasel, and it is the only toy she has ever played with. She will carry it in her mouth, making all sorts of noises until I praise her for being a good "weasel catcher". I think she is a huntress and wants to be praised for her "skill". Maybe she thinks that she is protecting us from a plague of rodents! Your cat could also view the stuffed toy as "prey" rather than a baby, and may be "patrolling the home for rodents" during the night. If it is disrupting your sleep, you could put the toy out of her sight at bedtime.|||it needs to have a light on where it sleeps or a mate|||Just because you are done playing doesn't mean she is.

My cat does it every night for about 15 minutes till she realizes no one is going to play with her. Then she comes to bed with me.|||My cat used to do that because I wouldn't let her sleep with me and she was very lonely and she wanted to play.Maybe you could let her sleep with you.|||My older cat will pull that same stunt out of her bag of tricks every once in a while. 2 or 3 in the morning and she is meowing as loud as can be and when I check on her she has one of her pom pom balls or toy mice in her mouth or at my bedroom door ready to play.

She will just do this a few nights in a row and then may not do it again for a month. Then one night it happens again! Thats why we love them...right?|||My cat dose the same thing if she comes take it and praise her it is natural think of it as a present i think its cute
