This is the first poodle that i have had and im wondering if hes toy or miniature because hes small where you can pick him and carry him around but at the same times he seems bigger than a toy so im wondering how i can tell?|||10" or less at the shoulder is a toy.
Over 10" to 15" is a miniature.
Many toys that are toy bred (from toy parents) do go over 10" anyway.
Weight has nothing to do with the category classification.|||In all honesty...breeders came up with the group 'toy' just to hike the price. They put them in this category if they will stay under 10lbs as full grown adults. For Chi's and Yorkies they call them teacups and again its just to hike price! AKC does not recognize them as anything other than a poodle (other than standard), chi, or yorkshore terrier.|||You have to wait till he's full grown (at about 18 months) and then measure from the floor to the top of the shoulders (when the dog is standing still). That will tell you the height of the dog - then look up the height of a Toy and Mini Poodle - you will know.
If you bought the dog from a reputable breeder in the first place, you would know if the dog was supposed to be a Toy or Mini!
