Do Toy Poodles have complications giving birth?

We have a15-month- poodle girl that we want to breed when she grows older. We have a few questions regarding Birth and Labor. We have heard that several breeds have complications giving birth, and we want to know if a Toy poodle can have any problems too.|||ANY dog can have problems- the best way to avoid them, if possible, is to make sure she's old enough (2+ years old), examined thoroughly by your vet before hand (shortly before breeding), and is matched with a mate who is a proper match size wise. Prenatal care of getting vet exams and an xray for a pup count/size check before birth also works wonders to know of issues before they arrise. There are no guarantees- but work with your vet, and hopefully find a mentor, to guide you through this process, and consider if you REALLY want to breed knowing it can cost thousands of $s and risk your girl's life.

Both posters above mean well but don't have their info quite correct- yes, breeding the entire heat CAN mean larger litters, but that's no way to ensure it goes OK...too big a litter has other complications. Having had a litter before does not mean the Mom can not have difficulty carrying or delivering pups in future litters.|||Magy is correct.|||Due to their size the smaller breeds can have some complications with labor, but if something does happen be prepared to pay a hefty vet bill. Also when you breed her make SURE that you get her pregnant, max two times in a year. It is hard on the little guys so dont use them like baby machines. Also consult your vet and make sure she is healthy before you give her puppies. Also near the end of her pergancy try to be with her as much as possible becuase you dont want her to go in labor alone, there may be something she may need you for!|||Why don't you take a trip down to your local pound, and see how many shaking, scared dogs and puppies are there, that will never make it out, and ask yourself again whether you want to contribute to that.|||Any dog large or small can have complications.

Any time you breed your dog you risk losing your dog and the whole litter of puppies.

You have hear the term, "stuff happens". Well things do go wrong. And many times it is at 2 or 3 in the morning when your regular vet isn't there!!!|||some poodles do but if you let the breeding go on the entire length thee will be enough pups that there will not be big one and you will be fine. you may have one smaller then others and you will have to take this on and help it. (means feeding and stuff) but in thelong run its worth it. take care.|||i am a a breeder on the books! look please research this, the answer is no and yes if your ***** is from good lines good solid backround and has a reason for breeding then probably will be fine with calsium treatments high protein diet and much care and love a good welping box, a strong breeder to guide her threw many situations that can arrise, you need to know when it will happen the signs the cycle to breed, and what is your reason?? show?? probably not! your asking a question that sits very painful for me, i put my time into my foundation ***** and she was only breed once she comes from a show line and holds titles she had finished and i wanted to produce another, who will be the stud?? does he have solid conformation and health?? you are going to ruin your dog and about 4-5 others if your dont smartin up.|||first litter yes but after that no. This is because they do not know what to do at first. They learn after that.
