For most US Airlines, your dog must be placed in an approved pet carrier for transportation. You cannot just grab any old canvas or tote bag and carry your pet in it. It would not protect your dog if there was a mishap on board. You local petstore will have all the options.
The carrier must then fit under the seat in front of you (obviously you would not want to chance suffocating your dog by placing it in the overhead compartment and shutting the compartment). Alternatively, if you purchase a second ticket you may keep the carrier in the seat beside you.
At no time during the flight may you take your pet out of the carrier. Upon arrival you will probably have to exit the terminal before opening up the carrier, as only service animals are allowed to be in the terminal.|||i dont think so|||If the dog is allowed, and different carriers have different policies, the animal will have to stay under the seat in front of you.
As having a 'heart attack' if she is crated in cargo, you could always ask your vet for a sedative to give her.|||well if she is small enough to be hidden in a big purse u can,my friend has done that, but if shes bigger, im afraid theyll make u put ur dog with the others in the cargo. hope everything works out!
